VP Kalonzo Musyoka casts his vote at Tseikuru polling centre/VPPS
Musyoka who was accompanied by his wife Pauline arrived at the polling station shortly after 10am and was conducted through the ten minute long exercise by the returning officer Kimwele Boniface.
Addressing the media later, the Vice President urged voters to be patient, noting that sometimes queues may be long and takes time to cast their ballot.
“This is an important and historic event that we cannot afford to lose the opportunity that would change this country forever,” VP said.
Musyoka at the same time sent a message of condolences to the families of officers killed during Monday morning’s attack in Mombasa.
He condemned the incident terming it as an act of cowardice aimed at instilling fear and despondency on the electorate.
The Vice President encouraged people at the coast and other areas that have received threats to ignore and turnout to vote, adding that security agencies and on high alert and that Kenyans will not be intimidated nor give in to terror groups.
He at the same time asked voters to treat warning leaflets circulated in some parts of the country with contempt, adding that the act is criminal.
Musyoka thanked the people of Tseikuru for their big turnout, noting that the queue had not been witnessed before.
The Vice President wished Kenyans a peaceful and successful electioneering and expressed optimism that the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) will emerge victorious.
Elsewhere, his outgoing boss President Mwai Kibaki cast his ballot at Munaini primary School polling station in Othaya constituency, Nyeri County.
The Head of State, whose constitutional mandate as president expires after the General Election, voted shortly after 11.30am.
Kenyans are this year participating in the first general election under the new Constitution promulgated in 2010.
Later President Kibaki made an inspection tour of Kagere-Munyange-Gitugi-Iriaini road among other roads in Othaya Sub-County whose rehabilitation is funded by the government.
