, NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 6 – Schools have been directed to re-open on Monday next week instead of Thursday, March 7, as earlier stated to facilitate an end to the electoral process.
A circular issued by Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo says that all students in boarding schools are required to report back to school from Sunday.
“Normal learning must start on Monday 11th March 2013 by 8am. All term dates communicated earlier to schools and education officers in the ministerial circular dated 11th October 2012 remain unchanged,” the circular reads.
Schools went on a half term break last Friday as most were being used as polling and tallying centres countrywide. They were expected to resume after seven days.
Kilonzo has also moved the submission of admission returns by national schools to next Tuesday.
“The ministry would also like to inform all heads of the 78 National schools that the submission date of the Form I admission returns has been rescheduled to take place on March 11,” the circular further read.
Primary and secondary schools opened for their first term on January 7 and are expected to close on April 12.
