A statement from Government Spokesman Muthui Kariuki stated that the allocation made earlier by the Transitional Authority has been revoked.
The Government Spokesman warned that unauthorised visits by persons purporting to inspect the building will not be tolerated.
“The Government would like to clarify that Shell BP House which has until now been housing the office of the Prime Minister is now reserved for the Deputy President. Anybody who may have any other information contrary to this should treat it as erroneous,” he stated.
Transitional Authority chairman Kinuthia Wamwangi indicated that the Governor will now be based at the City Council offices at City Hall.
He however, pointed out that any government office is open for inspection and that the Transitional Authority is a legitimate independent agency mandated to freely inspect buildings for use by county governments.
“Any decision to inspect and allocate a building for use is arrived at through consultative dialogue which is well planned. We are a legitimate organisation and not vagrants that we should just walk into a building and inspect it,” he said.
The Shell and BP building was bought by the government in 2009 for almost Sh1 billion before it was renovated and furnished for the Prime Minister.
This was after the power sharing agreement signed in 2008, which meant that the President and Prime Minister had to work closely.
Initial plans were to construct two offices in Upper Hill, to house the Offices of the President and Prime Minister.
