Muthama claims that there are suspicious vehicles trailing his movements within Nairobi. The former joint government chief whip also complained of having received death threats from unknown people.
The Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) luminary told a news conference at his private office in Gigiri that he has already written to David Kimaiyo through lawyer John Khaminwa seeking to have his security enhanced.
“He has noticed of late that strange vehicles are trailing his movements in the city. He is therefore living in fear and particularly in view of the fact that the government security arrangements which used to offer him protection have been withdrawn,” reads a later dated March 13.
The letter which is also copied to the Head of the Civil Service Francis Kimemia and Attorney General Githu Muigai further added: “Our instructions are to request you respectfully to consider seriously re-instating the previous security arrangements at his house and office.”
Muthama who was questioned by the police on Thursday over statements he made in Kibera earlier in the week claims the summons were orchestrated by unnamed powerful individuals.
“I was told that they were supposed to be carrying out further investigations and if they find there is evidence they will summon me back. But the issue here is not what I said but it is a way of intimidating me,” he said.
The newly elected Senator also claimed emissaries had been sent to persuade him to change his political stand.
He has further refuted claims that he is facing hate speech charges saying that there is no concrete evidence with the police, and reiterated that he will cooperate with officers in their ongoing investigations.
A police statement authored by Police Superintendent William Nangulu, who is currently the Makadara District Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO), states that Muthama is connected to the alleged hate speech offence or has information that may assist the police in their investigations.
