NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 26 – The Jubilee coalition has deposited five post-coalition agreements with the Registrar of Political Parties it has entered with political parties.

The National Alliance’s (TNA) Secretary General Onyango Oloo said the agreements are with New Ford Kenya, Ford People, Alliance Party of Kenya, Chama Cha Uzalendo and People’s Democratic Party.

According to the Political Parties Act, any pre or post-elections deal must be deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties.

“The agreement entails an undertaking that we will execute the joint programs of the parties as contained in their manifestos and that we will work together to ensure that the government agenda is pushed forward,” Oloo stated.

Speaking shortly after depositing the agreements, Oloo said they were still wooing other political parties to work with the Jubilee coalition, and revealed that they were still interested in particular with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani Coalition.

He stated that they were giving the coalition time to consult widely before Amani decides if it will enter into a deal with the new government.

“When we enter into an agreement with them we want a consensus so that nobody jumps and says they were not consulted. So we have allowed them as our brothers to consult and come to us when they have something,” Oloo stated.

Jubilee would be happy to have Mudavadi on their side to bolster their numerical strength in Parliament. The Amani coalition has 16 seats in the National Assembly and five in the Senate.

Jubilee also wants Mudavadi’s outfit on board to give the government a national outlook. To ensure this, sources say Mudavadi is being considered for a Cabinet Secretary’s position.

Amani is already on record saying it would only enter into serious negotiations based on the country’s interests and not individual benefit.

Such negotiations, Amani says, would also have to be on a structured basis respecting at all times the Amani Coalition. It will be based on Amani policies and would be for the benefit of all Kenyans.

A retreat held last weekend by the party was not able to decide whether to support CORD or Jubilee.
