IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan said on Wednesday that the officers from Nairobi, Central, Rift Valley, Nyanza, Eastern and Western regions and the Diaspora, started arriving at the National Tallying Centre from Tuesday night.
He however announced that the commission had only managed to verify results that had come in from the Diaspora, Kajiado Central and Kajiado South constituencies adding that the rest would be declared once they had been audited.
“In Nairobi region four Returning Officers have arrived. From Central region 10 have arrived while from Rift Valley, the Diaspora, Eastern, Western and Nyanza regions 10, one, three, four and 13 Returning Officers have arrived respectively,” he announced.
He further revealed that the commission would charter flights for Returning Officers in far flung areas to ensure that they made their way to the Bomas of Kenya national tallying centre alongside those that had not yet arrived.
Hassan also said that the commission had set up 10 audit and verification teams led by senior IEBC officers to ensure that the results received from all the regions were credible before they are finally declared.
Each commissioner will then declare the results of the various constituencies in the regions they supervise.
“The commission guarantees there will be a transparent process as we announce these final results.
Hassan further assured Kenyans that the results declared by the commission would be credible noting that the political party agents and the chief presidential candidates’ agents had signed behind the forms used to account for the results.
“In every Form 36 which we are receiving, at the back the agents of the parties and the candidates also signed and these were the results announced at the constituency level. It contains all the polling stations and what they have declared, total number of registered voters and votes cast,” he explained.
The IEBC also publicly declared the results from the Diaspora with Hassan announcing that ODM’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga garnered 1,224 votes while his closest competitor TNA’s presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta got 921 votes.
Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua received 31 votes from the Diaspora while Peter Kenneth (KNC) Musalia Mudavadi (UDF) James Ole Kiyiapi (RBK), Abduba Dida and Safina’s Paul Muite got 78, 20, seven, six and one votes respectively.
From Kajiado South constituency, Kenyatta received 24,000 votes followed by Odinga with 17,500 votes. Kiyiapi got 186, Kenneth 127, Mudavadi 106, Karua 44, Dida 14 and Muite nine.
In Kajiado Central constituency Odinga took the lead with 19,955 votes followed by Kenyatta’s 14,747. Kiyiapi managed to get 691 votes followed by Kenneth with 639, Mudavadi with 110, Dida 65, Karua 43 and Muite nine.
