The PM insisted that the Kisii community like any other Kenyan community has a right to security irrespective of their voting patterns adding it was unacceptable to threaten any one community with dire consequences if they did not vote in a particular manner.
Addressing a public rally at Rigoma trading centre in Nyamira County, the PM emphasised that it is the desire of the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) to enhance national unity saying those forcing people to vote in particular ways were being undemocratic.
Reiterating that CORD was committed to developing job creators rather than job seekers, the PM said a CORD government will seek to build fruit and other agricultural produce factories in Gusii land as value addition to the abundant farm produce in the area.
Odinga at the same time restated that CORD had no intention of repossessing anyone’s land.
He said, “At no time did I threaten to repossess anyone’s land as alleged by our detractors whose intention is to cause unnecessary anxiety.”
Meanwhile CORD running mate Kalonzo Musyoka led the team in Ukambani on day three of campaigns with rallies in Kinyaata, Masinga, Kyua and Itithini in Machakos County.
Musyoka appealed to Yatta residents to come out and vote for CORD during the March 4 general election warning them against voting in a president whose international reputation was at stake, as the country could suffer negative consequences.
Speaking at Masinga market, the vice president assured that CORD leaders will fully implement the new constitution that he said will benefit all Kenyans.
He said come June this year, the CORD government will ensure no Kenyan dies of hunger adding that those aged above 65 years will receive a social stipend every month.
Musyoka said the CORD government would ensure the Masinga road is tarmacked and water supplied to all residents in the area.
The vice president assured the residents that the Masinga airstrip will be expanded in order to facilitate marketing of horticultural products not only in the country but also to other parts of the world.
On education, Musyoka pledged that a CORD leadership would ensure more teachers are employed starting from nursery, primary and secondary, saying education will be free in all public schools.
The VP was accompanied by Machakos gubernatorial aspirant Alfred Mutua, Yatta Parliamentary aspirants Charles Kilonzo and Francis Mwangangi, East African Legislative Assembly member Peter Mathuki, former MPs Benson Mbai (Masinga) and Isaac Muoki (Kitui south).
Later the VP joined Odinga at Kapkatet in Kericho County for the day’s major rally.
