NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 31 – Former Embakasi Member of Parliament Ferdinand Waititu on Thursday went down on his knees with his eyes trained on the heavens moments after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission cleared him to contest the Nairobi governor’s seat.

Waititu spent longer than usual with the IEBC officials who took time to verify his credentials before they finally cleared him.

“This is my biggest day! Those who doubted that I will not be in the race should be prepared,” he declared to an ecstatic crowd of supporters who had accompanied him to the Nyayo National Stadium.

“I have no doubt I will win this the election. I have all the support from Nairobians,” he said.

Waititu trounced Nairobi businessman Jimnah Mbaru in The National Alliance primaries.

Mbaru has since de-camped to the Alliance Party of Kenya.

The governor’s race in Nairobi is a contest between Waititu, Mbaru, Evans Kidero (ODM) and former Town Clerk Philip Kisia among others.

The IEBC is racing against time to clear aspirants for the gubernatorial, senate and parliamentary seats.

Also cleared on Thursday is Capital FM’s Jazz Presenter Jack Ojiambo who is vying for the Dagoretti north parliamentary seat.
