NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 20 – The National Alliance (TNA) Dispute Resolution Tribunal which was formed after party polls to handle nomination petitions received about 170 complaints and had resolved 130 of them by Sunday.

The 11-member team headed by lawyer Faith Waigwa acknowledged that it didn’t expect so many complaints, but assured that they will work round the clock to ensure all disputes are resolved before Monday’s deadline to hand in list of nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

She emphasised that aspirants have a 24-hour window to register their disputes with the council.

“We did not expect to receive so many complaints but to be fair we have to expedite, finalise and meet the deadline,” she said.

“So far we’ve received 170 complaints as of 2pm when I left the offices. By that time we had concluded and resolved around 130 complaints. I want to assure the members of TNA that we are conducting this process transparently,” she added.

Waigwa said that the verdicts for all the complaints will be announced on January 21, with candidates being notified first.

Nairobi TNA governor nominee Ferdinand Waititu lauded the party for conducting a fair and free process and assured candidates contesting outcomes that the dispute mechanisms would resolve their complaints.

“If anybody experienced some issues, I’m sure they will be handled by the dispute committee in the party, and therefore nobody should feel that their issues will not be handled,” he said.

“And for those who lost, I want to urge them to join hands with the ones who won so that we can build a strong party and I wish to assure them that we will consider them for various positions in the future,” he emphasised.

Secretary General Onyango Oloo said that those not satisfied with the outcome can seek redress before the tribunal, which will listen and come up with a verdict satisfactory to both parties.

Nominated MP Rachael Shebesh, who will be the party’s flag bearer for the Nairobi County Women Representative seat, said that they have been campaigning for themselves over the last year to become nominated, but now they will immediately start to share how they intend to transform Nairobi as a party.

“We will roll out what we intend to do on slum upgrading, economic empowerment, job creation for young people, gender equality and access to credit for those in our population who need it the most,” she said.
