NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 18 – Cabinet Minister Soita Shitanda has secured a certificate to vie for the gubernatorial post in Kakamega County from New Ford Kenya, after the United Democratic Forum kicked him out over his academic qualifications.

Shitanda has told Capital FM News that he holds two degrees and one of them is duly recognised by the Commission for Higher Education.

He says UDF is a party of mischief and lacks the mechanisms to verify simple details.

He argued that New Ford Kenya took the trouble to call the commission which confirmed that the degree he holds from a university in Costa Rica is recognised in Kenya.

He says the other degree from an American university is the one that is not recognised locally.

He says he took studies at the university along with a TNA aspirant who received the greenlight from his party to contest the ongoing nominations.

Shitanda had been knocked out of the race over academic credentials along with assistant minister Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

On Shitanda’s bid for the Kakamega gubernatorial nomination, the UDF elections board chairman Abraham Limo told Capital FM News: “As it is, we cannot clear him to run unless it is proven to us that the papers he holds are from accredited institutions.”
