NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 19 – The National Alliance (TNA) election dispute tribunal on Saturday informed its members to file any nomination complaints within 24 hours.

TNA dispute resolution board chairperson Faith Waigwa said the process would be done transparently and concluded within the time required by law.

The party also set up a peace chamber headed by Aaron Ringera, where those dissatisfied with the decision of the tribunal can forward their appeals.

“The process will be done above board. We shall be transparent, free and fair and as much as possible impartial and with due regard to the rule of law and in consideration of the time factor that we have to meet the deadlines.”

“We will be working on a 24-hours basis. We will constitute several panels which will be able to expedite the ruling process.” she added.

Secretary General Onyango Oloo said the party completed its nominations on Friday at 9pm.

He said tallying was going on and winners without disputes would be announced on an hourly basis.

Oloo further said TNA was not worried about members who quit the party after losing in the nominations.

He urged all candidates to accept the results and respect the choice of the people.

“If you cannot win a nomination, truly you cannot win an election. Of course some people are bad sports people. If they lose they don’t want to concede or to go through the (dispute resolution) mechanism that has been set aside by the party. They think it is easier on the other side,” Oloo stated.

“We wish them well. As a party we know we did our best,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ODM national appeals board has began hearing disputes which have been filed by aspirants following the nominations held on Thursday and Friday.

ODM national elections board chairman Franklin Bett called on all aspirants who had grievances to be patient and wait for the verdict of the appeals board.

Bett said the board was still meeting to deliberate the issue of Siaya County gubernatorial contest and that of the Gem parliamentary seat and would communicate its ruling.

The ODM elections board rescinded the nomination of Oburu Odinga for the Siaya governor’s seat on Friday following claims of irregularities.

The board ordered Oburu and his challenger William Oduol to appear before the appeals board that would determine who between the two won the nomination.

“Therefore, reports doing rounds that the NEB has cleared particular individuals for the two disputes should be treated as rumours until the board makes a formal announcement,” said Bett.
