NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 22 – Outgoing Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru will now face off with outgoing Makadara MP Mike Sonko for Nairobi Senate after the Orange Democratic Movement gave her a direct ticket.

Several sources at Orange House have revealed that Wanjiru who was disqualified from the gubernatorial race was given preference over the immediate former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro who also wanted to vie for the same seat.

“The party made the decision after wide consultation among its stakeholders. We will release details of other nominees later in the day,” a source said.

Wanjiru was disqualified on account of holding degrees not recognised in Kenya as Section 22 of the Elections Act 2011 stipulates.

The fate of Ongoro is now expected to be known after the party releases its list of nominees later on Tuesday.

In the battle for Nairobi Governor former Mumias Sugar CEO Evans Kidero will square it out with former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu who was nominated by The National Alliance (TNA).
