NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – A college student accused of impersonating the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo collapsed in court on Monday after he was slapped with a Sh500,000 cash bail.

Jackson Siro, a student at Kenya Technical Teachers College, collapsed at the chief magistrate’s court prompting orderlies to administer fast aid on him.

Senior Principal Magistrate Lucy Mbugua had just ordered the accused to deposit the money to be released.

The 20-year old student appeared in court on Monday for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to charges last week but changed his plea, prompting the magistrate to direct him to post bail to secure freedom.

When he appeared in court last Friday, Siro pleaded guilty to two of the four charges preferred against him.

He had admitted presenting himself as the Inspector General of Police by opening a Facebook account.

The court heard that the accused committed the offences on diverse dates between December 24 last year and January 17 this year.

On Monday, Siro denied posting messages on Facebook knowing the information was false and meant to cause annoyance, inconvenience and needless anxiety to the Inspector General.

The case is now fixed for hearing on April 4 this year.
