NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 28 – It was all joy and jubilation for top candidates and their schools following the release of the 2012 Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) examination results on Monday.

At the little known Victory Junior Mombasa Academy, the air was charged with happiness after the school emerged top in Mombasa.

Pupils, teachers and parents were in celebration most of the day after Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo announced the KCPE results.

“Our mission is to provide quality education and inculcate moral values for sustainable individual in society,” said the school head Herbert Obwina.

The school located in Changamwe constituency was a beehive of activities as parents, well-wishers and journalists poured in big numbers to congratulate and get the first hand information of the school.

Obwina described education as investment and expressed his joy at having led the school to great heights during the examinations.

“We were placed position seventh in 2011 KCPE exams with a mean score of 362 but we are happy that the 21 pupils who sat for the 2012 examinations have improved the mean score to 365 this time round,” added Obwina.

The school had 11 girls and 10 boys who sat the 2012 examinations.

“God is great that we have made it this far. We want to retain the top position in 2013 examinations,” said the director.

This was the first time that the school presented candidates to sit for KCPE since its inception.

The top student at the school, Gregory Gichuku, scored 417 marks.

According to the school head teacher Sister Catherine Gathuma, this was a major surprise to them since this is the first time the school offered the examinations.

She narrated how they were surprised to hear the name of the school in the media saying it is all glory to God.

She attributed the success to cooperation among all the stakeholders.

The head teacher also attributed the success to the fact that the pupils had completed their syllabus months before the examination period.
