Euphoria at top 2012 KCPE schools

While congratulating the 20 schools that produced the best results, Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo announced that the Ministry of Education was working on a new method of ranking.

Kilonzo explained that ranking schools and students solely on their academic performances is retrogressive.

He pointed out that candidates who fail in the national examinations will no longer have to repeat.

The minister who spoke while releasing last year’s KCPE results said that research has shown that even after repeating, candidates never produce better results.

He said repeating national examinations is also against the new Constitution.

The minister indicated that there were fewer cases of cheating in schools, which he attributed to strict rules and regulations introduced last year.
