NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 26 –United Democratic Front presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi and New Ford Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa have revealed their intentions of forming a coalition ahead of the March 4 elections.

Mudavadi and Wamalwa who spoke during a cultural festival in Mbale trading centre on Wednesday said they will work together to ensure they take over the country’s leadership.

It remains unclear how the two leaders intend to form a coalition with the expiry of a deadline imposed by the registrar of political.

They did not give details of the coalition they intend to form when they spoke on Wednesday, only saying they intend to work together.

Wamalwa is already a member of the Eagle coalition which brings together Peter Kenneth, Party of Action’s (POA) Raphael Tuju among others—but is not yet clear if they intend to incorporate Mudavadi in it.

Kenneth who recently announced they were willing to accommodate Mudavadi into the outfit made it clear they will not make him the flag bearer.

“We are ready to accept him in our team but let him not assume that we will hand him the presidential ticket,” Kenneth said.

UDF Party Chairman Hassan Osman earlier told Capital FM News that the party would however, have to wait for the registrar of political parties to respond to their complaint against their former coalition partners, before entering into any formal deal.

“We signed a legal document and we can’t just walk away from it. We expect the registrar to look into the matter on Thursday as she had indicated,” Osman said, referring to a letter the party sent to the Registrar of Political parties Lucy Ndung’u at the week seeking for arbitration.

UDF wants the registrar to arbitrate over the acrimonious fallout with the Jubilee coalition after its Presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta dishonored an agreement to cede his ambitions for Musalia Mudavadi.
Ndung’u has said she will handle the matter after the Christmas break.

In the letter also copied to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman and chairmen of the United Republican Party (URP) and TNA, UDF said it strongly opposed the nomination of Kenyatta and Ruto as the presidential candidate and running mate of the Jubilee Coalition respectively.

Kenyatta and Ruto however hit back at Mudavadi saying they had not breached any coalition agreement jointly signed by the three parties on December 4 and instead accused the UDF leader of refusing to participate in the jubilee primaries.

Mudavadi had insisted on having the presidential ticket given to him automatically as agreed in the controversial deal, before the jubilee went ahead to conduct the nomination last Sunday.

Following the disagreement, Members of Parliament allied to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) which last week crowned Prime Minister Raila Odinga to vie for the presidency have asked Mudavadi to consider re-joining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
