NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 21 – The mother of five children who were found murdered on Thursday in their house at Nairobi’s Korogocho slum has surrendered to the police.

The woman reported to the Kasarani Police Station on Thursday night where she expressed shock at the killing of her children.

“She has said she is equally shocked… she claims she learnt of the whole thing from the media,” Nairobi Provincial Police chief Moses Nyakwama said.

“She is in custody for interrogation,” he added.

Detectives were questioning her to establish whether she was involved in the killings.

“As at now, we cannot tell if she is guilty or not,” one detective involved in the investigation told Capital FM News.

Nyakwama said she they hope she will assist them in tracking down the slain children’s father, who is believed to be a prime suspect in the deaths.

Bodies of the children aged between two and 10 were discovered in their house by neighbours at about 11 am on Thursday.

One of them appeared to have been stabbed in the stomach, while the rest were likely poisoned “because they had some foam oozing from the mouths.
