The VP warned that the government will not relent in its efforts to ensure that law and order prevails in the country.
NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20 – Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka remained the most active on the campaign trail on Tuesday, taking his tour of Western Province to Bungoma County.
Musyoka said the government will not condone criminals and acts of lawlessness to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere existing in the country.
He called on Kenyans to be alert and report suspicious characters amongst them to the relevant authorities, noting that they have a role to play in assisting the government’s efforts in eradicating acts of lawlessness.
The VP however urged the public not to take the law into their own hands but leave it to the security machinery to play their role, in curbing the vice.
He at the same time condemned Monday’s killing of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers, the grenade attack on a matatu at Eastleigh which killed eight people and the recent killing of police officers in Samburu.
“I assure you that the government is taking serious the security issue of its citizens and no stone will be left unturned until the culprits are nabbed,” he said while addressing a rally at Posta grounds in Bungoma town.
The VP appealed to Muslims and Christians to continue co-existing peacefully as in the past, and should not be distracted by the heinous attacks by hooligans whose sole aim is to wage an imaginary war between them.
Musyoka called on the residents of Bungoma constituency to back his presidential bid.
He said he was better placed to succeed President Kibaki when he retires from office owing to his vast experience in politics, leadership and international scene.
“I will use my vast experience to propel this country to greater heights of development if you voters give me a chance to transform this nation into a 24 hour economy as envisaged in the WDM manifesto,” he said.
The VP also officially commissioned 10 housing units for prison staff at the Bungoma GK Prison.
Musyoka concluded his two-day tour of Western Kenya later on Tuesday afternoon by addressing a public rally at Naitiri Market in the New Tongaren Constituency.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is away in South Korea met members of the Federation of Korean Industries in Seoul and announced Kenya will open its Special Economic Zones and the Konza Technology City to Korean firms and institutions that are keen on science and innovation.
He said this is part of Kenya’s effort to forge closer ties with rising Asian economies in a bid to create jobs and sustain economic growth.
“We are here to strengthen ties and to learn. The economic transformation that has taken place here is a thing to be admired, to draw inspiration from and to be emulated. In our country, we too look up to South Korea to inspire change and provide encouragement where it is most needed,” the PM said at a dinner hosted by the Federation of Korean Industries.
Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi who spent the day off after a campaign of western province took time to hit out at poll results by Ipsos Synovate which he said made no statistical sense just as another released by Infotrak Harris over a week ago.
He said that pollsters were playing a mind game on Kenyans trying to stream-roll the nation towards a given mindset.
Both polls fail to explain glaring statically disharmonious anomalies. Ipsos – How and why does the “popular” candidate end up the most “hated” if they were elected by the same respondents? How do you explain the comfort voters have in Mudavadi as an elected president against a lowly 4pc on the popularity scale?” he asked saying that it was impossible not to fault the intensions of the polls.
