TNA chairman Jackson Sakaja said that any pre-election pact between TNA and the United Republican Party will be signed in public to beat the December 4 deadline for coalition agreements to be deposited with Registrar of Political Parties.
“It’s quite sensational to say that we are signing a pre-election pact outside the country. We are Kenyans. Our candidates are running in Kenya; if anything will be signed it will be signed in broad daylight in Kenya in front of the public and our members because it is what they want to see.”
Capital FM News confirmed that Kenyatta was indeed in Bujumbura in the company of Eugene Wamalwa, Charity Ngilu, Musikari Kombo, Najib Balala and Kiema Kilonzo and met president Pierre Nkurunziza, but Ruto was in Kenya.
Several parties have signed a pact to support Kenyatta’s presidential bid including Alliance Party of Kenya (APK), Party of National Unity (PNU), Grand National Unity Party, and the Party of Action (POA).
Kenyatta and Uhuru are among four Kenyans facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Courts in The Hague.
Ruto at the weekend led his URP brigade in a tour of North and South Rift Counties for a meeting with elders, opinion leaders and ordinary voters to market the coalition.
Kenyatta and Ruto are said to have resolved to prepare voters in the Rift Valley and Central Kenya for the deal even as their key allies fine-tune the pact they are supposed to sign before it is made public.
The URP leader repeatedly told his supporters in his ongoing tour of the Rift Valley he will team up, with Kenyatta and other leaders with a serious development agenda for the people.
