NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 17 – Assistant Minister Josephat Nanok who is also Turkana South MP was arrested on Friday night over remarks he made a day earlier on killing of 42 police officers.

The MP was picked by police outside the Nation Centre soon after appearing on ‘The Trend’ show.

“Hon Nanok has been arrested after appearing on The Trend,” the show’s host James Smart tweeted soon after the lawmaker was picked up.

Nanok was detained by police officers who had been waiting for him outside the media house.

“We had been looking for him. We want him to tell us what he knows about the attacks and killing of police officers,” CID director Ndegwa Muhoro said.

The MP and two other lawmakers, Cabinet Minister John Munyes and MP Ekwe Ethuro, had been summoned earlier but failed to show up for questioning.

They had addressed a press conference on Thursday when they appeared to justify the attacks on the officers by Turkanas.

They also accused the government of sending in the military to “shell” villages in their region.

Nanok held a news conference on Friday morning and indicated he would respond to the request to appear before the CID at a convenient time after consulting his lawyer.

He however added that his comments were made within the precincts of Parliament, where he enjoys immunity from any action by law enforcers.
