Kenyatta told a TNA National Women Aspirants Forum on Friday that his innocence will be proven even in the case at the ICC where he is accused of crimes against humanity.
“Many have laid out traps for us. They have accused us of many things and they have said many things but we believe that God does not sleep nor eat in anybody’s house. They can keep on laying out the traps but if God is with us, we will continue steadfast in a bid to build our nation,” he said.
His statement came even as a Civil Society Organisation filed a fresh case challenging his integrity and that of William Ruto to seek the presidency in next year’s poll.
The International Centre for Policy and Conflict (ICPC) filed a fresh application saying the court should determine the eligibility of the two politicians who are facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court.
The case will be heard from Monday.
The fresh suit came barely a day after other civil society activists withdrew an earlier case over the integrity of the politicians.
While withdrawing the earlier case the petitioners’ lawyer Ambrose Weda told a three-judge bench that the issue of integrity could not be addressed fully if Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi were not part of the lawsuit.
Describing their decision to drop the petition as tactical, the activists said that they will file what they term as “the mother of all petitions” that will encompass all presidential candidates.
During Friday’s event, Kenyatta further reiterated that TNA was open to alliances with like-minded individuals during the election period to mitigate a recurrence of the 2007 post poll chaos.
“There is no one who has a right of asking for your vote and then bring bloodshed in the process. We want everyone to campaign in a peaceful manner and let Kenyans decide,” he said.
Kenyatta and his co-accused Ruto are due to unveil a pre-election alliance before Tuesday and maintain that the union is intended to foster peace and unity.
The TNA presidential hopeful refuted claims that his alliance with URP was a tribal outfit saying that it represented the whole country.
He received pledges of support from PNU members and urged every party member to ensure they register themselves as voters.
“I want to urge everyone in TNA to register themselves as voters. It is of no use of you keep declaring your support by word of mouth and you do not have you voter’s card. All this will be in futility.”
