The applicants must be holders of an undergraduate degree from a university recognised in Kenya with at least 10 years experience of managing a public institution.
They must have knowledge and experience in criminal investigation or policing with proven experience in management, law, finance and governance.
“The CID director shall be appointed for a single six-year-term and is not eligible for re-appointment,” the advertisement signed by the National Service Commission chairman Johnston Kavuludi states.
The position is currently held by Ndegwa Muhoro who is among candidates short listed for the post of deputy Inspector General of Police whose interviews are scheduled to begin next week.
The National Police Service Commission is seeking to recruit an Inspector General, two deputies and the CID director by the end of next month.
The commission has announced that it will conduct interviews for all the applicants in public and has already invited petitions from members of the public.
Shortlisted candidates are warned against any form of canvassing either by proxy, emissary, clan whipping and using pressure groups or by other associations.
Last week, the commission shortlisted 27 candidates for the posts of Inspector General and two deputies for the Regular and Administration Police.
Among those shortlisted for the Inspector General’s position are Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe, Grace Kaindi, who heads the Complaints department at Vigilance House, former Provincial Criminal Investigations Officer Swaleh Slim, ex-Provincial Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan, Joseph Ashimala, David Kimaiyo of the Small Arms Secretariat, John Patrick Owino, Peter Macharia Mwangi of the State Law Office, and Mary Oyugi-Kaol of the International Police (Interpol).
Those who made to the shortlist for Deputy Inspector General (Kenya Police Service) are Muhoro, Marcela Andanje, Judy Jebet Ndeda (Railways Police), Mohammed Ibrahim Amin (CID), Jasper Nyauma Ombati (United Nations Mission in South Sudan) who once served as the Police Spokesman, former Provincial Police Chief Ezekiel King’ori Mwangi (Police Reforms), Stanley Cheruiyot, Dido Mamo Galgalo and Zipporah Gatiria Mboroki.
The following were shortlisted for the post of Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Administration Police: Administration Police Commandant Samuel Arachi, Omar Shurie Abdi (Administration Police Training College), Dalmas Otieno Nyakembo Ochalo, Margaret Nyambura Karanja, Eusebius Laibuta (Administration Police Personnel), Fred Mwei (Administration Police), David Karungu Ngori and Alexander Kyenze Munyao and Deputy CID Director Gideon Muoki Kimilu.
The short-listing was done from 102 candidates who applied to be considered for the post of Inspector General, 39 for the Kenya Police Service and 39 for the Administration Police.
