Kiprono’s appointment takes effect immediately/COURTESY

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 5 – President Mwai Kibaki on Friday appointed William Kibet Kiprono as the new Director of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

The appointment came two days after the KWS board appointed Peter Leitoro as an acting director to replace Julius Kipng’etich who quit last week.

Kipng’etich, who retired after eight years at the helm of the parastatal, was on Thursday appointed as the Equity Bank Group’s Chief Operating Officer.

Kipng’etich said he was ready for the new challenge, adding that his stint on the bank’s board meant he was familiar with its operations.

During his exit, KWS Board Chairman David Mwiraria praised him saying he had transformed the organisation from poor management to an organisation that has raised Kenya’s stakes of tourism.

Kipngetich worked hard to refurbish public parks to increase the country’s tourism flow despite the security challenges it is facing from poachers.
