TEL-AVIV, Israel, Oct 22 – Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has arrived in Israel for a three-day official visit during which he will hold talks with President Shimon Perez and the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas.

The vice-president and the two leaders are expected to discuss the Middle East Peace process especially the progress of the Oslo Accord.

Musyoka, who will also meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs minister as well as the Speaker of the Knesset, is expected to encourage Israel and Palestine to move towards a solution that will enjoin peace in the region.

The VP will also take part in bilateral talks between Kenyan and Israeli officials whose focus will be how Kenya can benefit from Israel’s prowess in water harvesting, management and irrigation technology, as well as value addition of agricultural products especially in horticulture.

The vice-president who is accompanied by MPs Emilio Kathuri and Mohammed Affey, will also use the tour to familiarise himself with the high technology used in irrigation, horticulture and dairy production at the famous Kibbutz farm in the valley of Jordan Valley near the Sea of Galilee.

While visiting Afi Milk, the largest dairy production company in Israel which is active in 50 countries across the world, the vice president learnt that it was a combination of research-based knowledge and proper management skills that enabled Israel to get 40 litres of milk per cow per day.

According to Ofer Tamir the Managing Director of Afi Milk, the focus of their technology and management skills is to profitably produce high quality dairy products.

“We continuously research to improve our knowledge on productivity so that we are always at our best in dairy production” Tamir said.

The company which has a presence in South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and several countries in Europe is in the process of partnering with a firm in Kilifi, at the Coast to facilitate technology transfer.
