NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 30 – The Wiper Democratic Movement has warned the Kangundo Member of Parliament (MP) Johnson Muthama, to cease and desist from consorting with Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The pronouncement was made by Nominated MP Mohammed Affey following a National Executive Commitee and Parliamentary Group meeting attended by the party leader and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka at the party headquarters.

“All party members will cease and desist from personal, unilateral pronouncements and engagements that have either direct or indirect policy implications for the party and the party leader such as has been reported in the media in recent days.”

Muthama and Odinga had watched a Gor Mahia versus Tusker FC match at the City Stadium on Sunday fuelling speculation that the Orange Democratic Movement and Wiper Democratic Movement were in talks to form an alliance in preparation for the March 4 General Election.

Speculations, Affey said, were unfounded.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we have no discussions, formal or otherwise, with ODM.”

“The Wiper Democratic Movement NEC and PG has in the past authorised the party leader to work with and seek the support of other political parties and formations with common ideals and aspirations, especially peace, prosperity and stability of our great nation.”

He however did not discount entirely the possibility of an alliance with ODM by adding, “Once we reach that decision, we’ll let you know.”

Wiper Democratic Movement, Affey confirmed, was in talks with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s The National Alliance (TNA) and the Eldoret North MP William Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP).

“The Vice President is speaking to TNA under Uhuru Kenyatta, we are speaking to URP, we are speaking to Ford Kenya, we are speaking to DP and infact, we are going to sign an agreement very soon with the Democratic Party. And those are the parties are far as we are concerned, we are in a formal engagement.”

Musyoka and Odinga were both in the Orange Democratic Movement of Kenya immediately before the 2007 general elections, in the lead up to which they parted ways as they were unwilling to step down for the other in the presidential race.
