The PM acknowledged that MRC could have arisen due to the historical injustices suffered since pre-independence days, but stated that the solution to their issues was to engage in talks with the government to resolve them.
He announced that he will soon appoint a task force that will engage all residents of the coast region including the MRC in the dialogue saying the next government should not carry the baggage of unresolved issues in the coast region and in other regions in the country.
The PM was speaking on Saturday when he addressed a public rally in Rabai, Kilifi County to celebrate the election of the ODM councillor for the Kalyangombe ward in the recent by-election, Dan Chibule.
Odinga explained that the task force will also cover the issues that caused the recent flare ups in the Tana Delta that pitted pastoralist communities against farmers with loss of hundreds of lives and destruction of property running into millions of shillings.
The PM however pointed out that some of the issues being raised in the coast region including land, unemployment and infrastructure also affected northern and north eastern Kenya and had been addressed in the Constitution.
Odinga at the same time, dispelled fears that an ODM government will sack chiefs and district commissioners saying it was propaganda that was being spread by enemies of the party.
He reminded Kenyans that the Constitution had stated categorically that the Provincial administration will be restructured to conform to the Constitution saying that meant that chiefs and DCs will still exist but will work under governors.
He said, “ODM has no intention of sacking any public servant who is performing their duties well, Kenyans should ignore this propaganda that is meant to tarnish the image of the party.”

Noting that the Constitution has many powerful enemies, Odinga said it was telling that county commissioners were appointed against constitutional provisions.
“People who can disregard a court ruling outlawing these appointments and also ignore the Attorney General’s advice not to appeal against the ruling are indeed determined to have it their way. Electing such people into government will be endorsing business as usual,” he added.
Odinga reiterated that the coming general election would bring a complete transformation to the country, saying coupled with total implementation of the Constitution will bring about a peaceful revolution to the country.
He observed that the Constitution whose centrepiece is devolution will transfer powers to the 47 counties adding most of the work done at the national level will now be done at the county level thereby giving the people a greater say in matters of agriculture, education and infrastructure among others.
