A statement from the JSC Secretary Gladys Shollei reaffirmed that the 16 are a product of a competitive recruitment process.
NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 22 – The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Friday recommended 16 persons for appointment as Judges of the Environmental Land Court.
The 16 include Anne Obongo, Oscar Angote, Boaz Mutungi, Boaz Olao, Anthony Ombwayo, and Anthony Ndung’u.
Others are Lucy Nyambura, Beatrice Kiprotich, Lucy Njoki peter Muchoki, Stephen Murigi and Samuel Ndung’u.
The rest are Githumbi, Samson Odhiambo Munyao Silas and Elijah Ogoti.
The court is a superior court of record with the status of the High Court.
Persons who qualify to be judges in the court must have had at least 10 years’ experience as distinguished academics or legal practitioners with knowledge and experience in matters relating to environment or land.
The court has original and appellate jurisdiction to hear and determine all disputes relating to environmental planning and protection, climate issues, land use planning, title, tenure, boundaries, rates, rents, valuations, mining, minerals and other natural resources.
The court will also hear and determine disputes relating to compulsory acquisition of land, land administration and management and disputes relating to public, private and community land.
