Senior policeman killed in Rongai

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 15 – A senior Administration Police officer was gunned down by car jackers and his body abandoned in his vehicle in Ongata Rongai on Tuesday night.

The officer attached to the Milimani Law Courts had telephoned his wife to inform her that he had been carjacked moments earlier before his mobile phone went silent, according to police.

Nairobi Provincial deputy Police chief Moses Nyakwama said they are investigating the motive of the killing because nothing was stolen from the slain officer.

A pistol and a police communication gadget the officer was carrying were all found intact.

“We do not know the motive of the killing because they did not even take away the equipment he had, which thugs rarely spare,” Nyakwama said.

Officers who visited the scene said the slain officer had been shot once in the head before his blood-soaked body was abandoned in his car.

“It is a gruesome murder, we would want to know why they (thugs) did this to him,” another officer said.

Incidents of armed crime have been on the increase in Ongata Rongai and Lang’ata lately, with at least three carjacking reported weekly.

Police have however, assured that they have intensified patrols to curb such cases and restore security.
