President Kibaki jets home from London

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 2 – President Mwai Kibaki jetted back into the country on Thursday morning from an official visit to the United Kingdom where he attended the official opening of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games.

During the visit, President Kibaki addressed the Kenya Investment Conference where he called on investors in the UK and across the world to take advantage of the existing lucrative investment opportunities in Kenya.

The President outlined measures that have been put in place to create a conducive investment environment in the country including the enactment of the new Constitution and the massive infrastructure development across the country.

Addressing the Kenya Diaspora Conference in London, President Kibaki assured Kenyans in the diaspora that the Government is committed to the full implementation of the new Constitution.

The President cited the provision for dual citizenship and the progressive realization of voting rights as some of the direct benefits of the new Constitution to Kenyans in the diaspora.

President Kibaki also opened an exhibition dubbed ‘Kenya House’ which is geared towards showcasing investment opportunities available in Kenya.

The plane carrying the President and his entourage touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 6.00 a.m.

On arrival, President Kibaki was received by Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Defence Minister and acting Internal Security Minister Yussuf Haji and acting Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia among other senior government officials.

At the airport, the President inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Airforce.
