NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18- The National Alliance (TNA) Party has suffered a setback after the High Court issued an order stopping the party from presenting its nominee for the forthcoming Kajiado North by elections to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Vacation judge Justice Alfred Mabeya issued the order after the aggrieved candidate Francis Gitau Parsimei moved to court to stop the nomination of Moses Ole Sakuda.

Parsimei told the court that the exercise was not conducted in a transparent manner as most of the people who voted for Sakuda were not members of TNA.

Parsimei who finished second argues that he was denied an opportunity to participate in the nomination exercise.

The court held that pending the hearing and determination of the petition IEBC should not receive the nomination of Moses Sakuda as TNA’s preferred candidate for the mini poll.

The hearing for the case is scheduled for next week Wednesday.

Ole Sakuda emerged victorious in Kajiado North with 16,130 (90 percent of the votes) followed by his only challenger Parsimei who got 1,677 votes.

Joseph Manje who also wanted to be nominated as TNA candidate bowed out of the race in support of Sakuda but managed 19 votes.

On Wednesday night while he received his nomination certificate, Sakuda expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious in the September 17 by-election. He said that he was willing to work with all the competitors to deliver the first parliamentary seat for TNA.

“We are a cosmopolitan constituency but we have seen one of the most peaceful nominations. I intend to work with all my competitors but we want to assure the party that we will deliver the first TNA seat,” he said though admitting that hard work would commence immediately.

TNA had on Wednesday beaten the deadline for nomination of candidates for three by elections in Ndhiwa, Kajiado North and Kangema constituencies in a process it termed as ‘trend setting in party primaries.’

Party chairman Johnson Sakaja said that the party will continue to be the pace setter in the transformation of parties and entrenchment of democracy.

“TNA is setting the pace in terms of how internal democracy must be enshrined in political parties. We have had a very successful day on nominations as well as tallying,” Sakaja said on Wednesday.

Parties are expected to present their nominees to the IEBC between 23 and 26 of August.
