Former Vihiga MP Andrew Ligale said that both candidates must co-operate immediately in order to secure the presidential ticket.
“We urge them to put their pride aside and to co-operate now,” he emphasised.
“As wazee from the two communities they represent, we promise to ensure one of them gets the top seat; but the ball is now squarely in their court,” he added.
The elders from the two regions held a daylong meeting with the aim of enhancing co-operation between the two communities in matters of cultural, social, economic and political spheres.
“Given the bad experiences of tribal clashes following the 2007presidential elections, it was felt that Kenyans from different communities needed to reach out to each other to enhance co-operation ahead of next year’s general elections,” Ligale explained.
“We have established that what unites us as people is more important than any cultural differences between us,” he stated.
The meeting was a follow up of two similar meetings held between the two communities on June 20 and July 26.
Ligale revealed that they plan to reach out to other communities in the country to enhance co-operation ahead of next year’s general elections.
“It is intended that each representative from the county should go out and identify influential wazee in his area of jurisdiction for a meeting with the core group during the month of August,” he said.
“Once all the counties covering these two communities have been visited, we shall start to reach out to other communities and carry out a similar exercise,” he added.
