NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 3 – Six people were killed and eight others seriously wounded in a road accident that occurred on Mombasa road on Tuesday.

The accident involving three vehicles occurred at the Machakos junction, police said.

“Six people were killed on the spot, eight others have been injured,” Eastern Provincial Police chief Marcus Ochola said.

The accident occurred when a truck rammed on two saloon cars.

“We have not established what exactly happened an investigation is underway,” he said.

On Monday, five other people were killed in an accident on the Bomet-Kericho road when their vehicle developed a tyre burst and rolled several times.

Among those killed are two men, and three children.

Fatal road accidents are common in most parts of the country, particularly on highways in what police mostly blame on poorly maintained vehicles and abuse of traffic regulations.

Statistics available at the Traffic headquarters show that more than 80 percent of the accidents involve public service vehicles.
