NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 13 – Police say the husband of a woman who was arrested on Tuesday night in Zimmerman, Nairobi with a hand grenade and three pistols is one of the most wanted gangsters in Kenya.

Nairobi Police Chief Antony Kibuchi said Milcah Wangui Waithera’s husband Jamali Juma Kibiringe was part of the gang involved in a Sh50 million bank heist in December last year.

“This is one of the most wanted criminals we are looking for because he is committing crimes with others here in Nairobi, Mombasa and other towns,” he said.

“When members of the public leaked the information about where he stays somewhere in Zimmerman, the elite police officers from the Flying Squad proceeded to the house and found his wife with the arsenal,” he revealed.

Waithera was briefly detained at the Kasarani police station before detectives handed her over to the Anti-Terrorism Police unit for further questioning.

“She cooperated very well and then from that house we were able to recover three 9mm Ceska pistols, the grenade and a Blackberry. We are getting more information from the lady and that is why we are releasing his photograph to you so that all the Kenyans can be informed,” he said.

Kibuchi added that Kibiringe, 27, has been involved in a spate of other crimes across the country.

“I am appealing to him because I am sure that he might either be listening or viewing or reading newspapers that wherever he is he is at liberty to come and surrender to any police station or even come to my office and surrender himself to me,” he stated.

He further urged all Kenyans to vigilant to every aspect of crime especially terrorism and report any suspicious characters or activity to the police.

“Yes, the threats are there… we do not deny. And since now the Al-Shabaab are in their dying kicks, they may kick back here in Nairobi. I am urging all residents here to remain extra vigilant and not assume that everything is alright. We are under threat and we need to cooperate especially with information,” he said.
