Li (R) meets with Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton in Beijing/XINHUA

BEIJING, Jun 13 – Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton on Monday, encouraging both countries to beef up cooperation among local governments.

Local cooperation is an important part of the basis of China-US relations, Li said. The two countries have established 39 pairings of friendship states/provinces and 180 pairs of sister cities, according to him.

He urged both sides to utilize multiple channels to facilitate cooperation in a variety of areas, including trade, technology, energy and culture.

Hailing the progress of China-US relations over the years, Li said China hopes to work closely with the United States to expand converging interests and make greater achievements in developing bilateral ties.

Describing trade cooperation as a cornerstone for bilateral relations, the vice premier said the two countries’ industries are highly compatible, and their economic cooperation far outweighs their competition.

Dayton said Minnesota hopes to enhance cooperation with China and will offer a favourable environment for mutual investment.
