“This time round, we are going to have peaceful election and I want to tell the prophets of doom that they will be defeated. We are going to have peaceful, free and fair elections,” he said.
Speaking in Embu town during a campaign tour, Ruto also took issue with Odinga for tabling a confidential document in Parliament authored by the National Security and Intelligence Service (NSIS).
His remarks were supported by Kuresoi MP Zakayo Cheruiyot and his Dujis counterpart Adan Duale.
“I know from experience having served as Internal Security PS during the Moi regime that it is wrong for the PM to make public a letter by NSIS,” said Cheruiyot.
Duale accused Odinga of spearheading tribal politics through the Pentagon which he used in the 2007 campaigns.
“Raila is the one who condones tribalism. He perpetuated tribalism by creating the Pentagon which was an alliance of tribal chiefs. No other party can peacefully campaign in Nyanza,” he claimed.
Odinga had said that the NSIS has informed the government of strong indicators of violence due to an increase in tribal politics which is fuelling ethnic hostilities.
“The service has warned that the recent trend where a section of the political elite have resorted to using ethnic groups for political mobilisation in order to advance personal and community interests to the exclusion of other sections is posing a threat to national cohesion and security,” the PM told Parliament on Wednesday.
Ruto, Duale and Cheruioyot also criticized the declaration of support for same-sex marriage by US President Barrack Obama.
“Obama is calling for homosexuality to be legalized, Kenya is a God fearing country and we cannot have room for such behavior. Gay marriages will ruin the morality of this country,” said Mr Ruto.
