NAIROBI, KENYA, MAY 1, 2012- Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi is scheduled to announce on Wednesday the party that he will use to contest the presidency in the forthcoming general elections.

Mudavadi told the May 1 celebrations at Uhuru Park that he wants to end anxiety among his supporters on the way forward after ditching Raila Odinga’s led ODM party.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) at KICC, I will let you know what you have been waiting for as we look forward,” said the ODM deputy leader.

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto are expected to attend the launch to be held at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC).

Mudavadi opted out of ODM following disagreement with the party over a clause on nominations which guarantees the party leader automatic presidential ticket.

Throughout his campaign to meet ODM delegates in all the counties, Mudavadi has continuously denied that he was working to destabilize the party from within.

The Sabatia MP and his allies had wanted the clause amended before the ODM constitution was handed over to the Registrar of political parties in compliance with the law.

The latest development comes hours after a new opinion poll showed that Odinga would easily trounce Mudavadi if a presidential election was held today.

The poll conducted between April 6 and April 17 showed that the PM would also win more votes (51 per cent) in Western province as compared to Mudavadi’s 18 per cent if the two contested for the top seat.

The poll by IPSOS Synovate also showed Mudavadi would garner 41 per cent of the votes with Odinga at 43 per cent in a presidential runoff.
