Gumo says most of the aspirants have made Odinga their main campaign issue when they should be selling their vision for the nation/CFM
NAIROBI, Kenya, May 14 – Newly appointed acting Local Government Minister Fred Gumo is challenging those who want to be president to stop basing their campaigns on bashing Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Gumo says most of the aspirants have made Odinga their main campaign issue when they should be selling their vision for the nation.
The Minister who spoke at Orange House when he received councilors from Bungoma County keen on working with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), also insisted that it was unfortunate that other presidential candidates were waiting to pounce on the ICC cases against Eldoret North MP William Ruto and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Which president do you want to become if your main aim is to block other candidates from being president; you have to stand up and run your campaign based on real agenda,” said Gumo.
Gumo who was accompanied by Ministers Anyang’ Nyong’o and Joe Nyaga urged voters to be wary of candidates with no message of development other than personalised attacks on fellow contenders.
“Why does anyone want to block Raila? You can only campaign against a sitting president if he is contesting but not against a fellow contender. It is up to Kenyans to look out for those candidates who have been planted in the race,” he insisted arguing that Odinga deserved a fair chance to be elected.
ODM also paraded Kegode Mudavadi, a brother to the former deputy party leader Musalia Mudavadi who insisted that he was staying in ODM despite the departure of his brother.
“People in Western Province have not quit ODM because of the departure of my brother Mudavadi, but even those who have left are still welcome in the party,” he said.
The councilors who were mainly supporters of the New Ford Kenya, and Party of National Unity insisted that they had not decamped to ODM but were willing to work with it in the next general election.
Led by former Bungoma County Council Chairman Julius Bakasa they urged Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa to back down on his presidential ambitions in support of Raila Odinga.
“We have not come here to defect but are urging Eugene whom we support to team up with the Prime Minister because Mudavadi is out to spoil his chances,” alleged Bakasa.
