Midiwo threatens to spill more

Midiwo says he will not be cowed by an arrest order issued by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko/FILE

KISUMU, Kenya Apr 30 – Government Joint Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo is now threatening to spill more beans on the alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Raila Odinga unless police open up a fresh probe on his revelations.

Midiwo says he will not be cowed by an arrest order issued by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

“I want Tobiko to tell Kenyans which part of my statement is false and I want to tell this to the Police – you either investigate or Jakoyo Midiwo talks,” Midiwo told a crowd at Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground in Kisumu.

Speaking a day after jetting back from India, Midiwo accused the Criminal Investigations Department of shoddy investigations on his allegations that powerful individuals were plotting the Prime Minister’s murder.

A team of lawyers in Kisumu successfully blocked his intended arrest upon arrival over claims he made on the alleged assassination plot.

The Police have confirmed that they had deployed an additional 60 officers to the Prime Minister’s security detail following Midiwo’s revelation.

The Gem MP said he has gone through the investigation file forwarded to court by the DPP and only found the statement he wrote at the CID headquarters.

He said statements made by the people he named were never made public and have not been taken to court.

Midiwo called upon the police force in the country not to be used by politicians.

“A few years ago we said there were Artur brothers in this country to assassinate Odinga, when the truth was found and revealed, it was found that they had been given police badges to operate as deputy police commissioners,” said the Gem MP.

He narrated how his silence had led to the death of University of Nairobi don Crispin Odhiambo Mbai in 2009.

“Mbai revealed that he would be killed and I remained silent. I am not going to repeat the same mistake,” Midiwo said.
