NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 1- The Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) said on Tuesday that it would wait until a National Delegates Conference is held in March to discuss the conduct of its Chairman Samuel Poghisio and Secretary General Mutula Kilonzo.

Speaking after the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, WDM vice Chairman David Musila said they would determine what disciplinary action to take on the two after holding further consultations.

The meeting, in Nairobi, was chaired by Party Leader Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

“Party members will decide what course of action to take on the two in March, during the delegates’ conference and we will also seek to know whether or not they wish to participate in the elections of party officials at the national level,” he explained.

“We don’t want to decide whether to discipline them at this time,” he added.

Kilonzo is being accused by his party members of undermining the leadership of the party’s leader, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, by calling for the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, a position that is contrary to that of the VP.

Moreover, the Justice Minister has time and again maintained that Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto should not vie for the presidency until they are cleared by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Read Mutula’s call for their resignation here.

On the other hand, Poghisio finds himself on the hot spot due to his perceived association with Ruto’s camp.

“How can you become the President of the victims who are supposed to give evidence against you at the ICC? The Court can only confirm the charges if it has evidence and that evidence will come from the same Kenyan victims,” Kilonzo has argued.

Musila said the party had mechanisms through which to resolve any outstanding issues and disputes.

But the WDM Secretary General maintains that he is not aware of any disciplinary measures that were to be taken against him.

“I have not received any summons from the party or the coalition or anything to show that there are disciplinary processes against me but I want to dare them to do so,” Kilonzo told Capital News.

After the NEC meeting, Musila said that Wiper did not agree with the position taken by the party’s official spokesman with regards to the ICC developments.

“We do not support what he is saying and his stand is probably related to his portfolio in the Cabinet,” he noted.
