NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 26 –The Family of the late former Defense Minister Njenga Karume on Sunday announced that he would be buried on Saturday at his Cianda home in Kiambu County.

Family Spokesman James Njenga said Karume would not be accorded a State funeral but the family would work closely with the government in the arrangements.

“In consultation with all the relevant authorities, we have now finalised the day of the funeral which will be the third of March. Everything will be held here at his Cianda home from the church service to all the necessary things that are done on a funeral day. We hope to start at 10am on Saturday,” Njenga said.

Viewing of the body would be done at the Lee Funeral Home where the late Karume’s body is lying.

President Mwai Kibaki on Sunday afternoon visited the former Minister’s home, to condole with the family.

The President eulogised Karume as an astute businessman and an exemplary Kenyan who built a business and political empire through hard work and determination.

“I thank God for the great moments I shared with such a fine gentleman,” the President who was accompanied by his daughter Judy Kibaki and son Jimmy said.

Karume who was a close ally of the President died of Prostate cancer aged 83 barely four days after the demise of Cabinet Minister John Michuki who was also President Kibaki’s close associate.
