Man drives drunk to pick up licence from German police

The culprit is now facing charges of drink driving as well as driving without a licence/FILE

BERLIN, Dec 28 – A man drove to a German police station to ask to get back his licence which he had lost for drink driving but was immediately arrested for a blood-alcohol level far above the legal limit, police said Wednesday.

The 47-year-old rolled up in his car to the police headquarters in the eastern town of Plauen on Tuesday, just after the three-day Christmas holiday and days ahead of New Year festivities.

“He asked inside where his driving licence was, which he had had confiscated days before due to drink driving,” the authorities said in a statement.

Noticing he was again intoxicated, officers ordered a test which revealed a blood-alcohol level of 296 millilitres or nearly six times the limit of 50 millilitres.

“The culprit is now facing charges of drink driving as well as driving without a licence,” police said.
