NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has re-organized his office in line with the new Constitution which de-links it from the Attorney General’s office and establishing it as an independent arm of the government.
Tobiko who took up the new office about three months ago developed the new management structures in consultation with the Ministry of Public Service.
“The new structure has directorates namely the Offenses against the Person, Economics, International and Emerging Crimes, County Affairs and Regulatory Prosecutions and the Central Facilitation Services – each headed by a deputy director,” a senior officer who has seen the draft told Capital News.
“Sections and units under the directors will be headed by assistant deputy directors while the role and functions of each directorate and the reporting channels are stipulated in the structure,” he said.
The new structure also creates a new post of Secretary of Public Prosecutions which was not there before.
The DPP said the new structure is aimed at improving service delivery in his department.
The new structure also requires that 500 state counsel be hired to replace the police prosecutors who carry out prosecution work countrywide.
