NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – The Party of National Unity (PNU’s) Walter Nyambati was set to reclaim the Kitutu Masaba parliamentary seat after a hotly contested mini-poll.
The immediate former area MP took an early lead immediately vote tallying started at 5pm and kept the pace trouncing ODM’s candidate Timonthy Bosire by over 3,000 votes.
Out of 107 of the 112 polling centres, Nyambati had garnered 11075 votes against Bosire’s 8,991.
Kenya National Congress Shadrack Mose was third with 7,938 votes.
Musician Alex Apoko alias Ringtone of VIPA party came in a distant eighth with 467 votes.
Returning officer Fredrick Odenge expressed concern over the low voter turnout in the constituency.
The seat fell vacant after the High Court in Kisii nullified Nyambatis victory citing electoral flaws on the part of the defunct ECK.
Civic elections were also taking place in several constituencies.
PNU clinched the ward seat in Karima in Othaya constituency where President Mwai Kibaki campaigned for the party’s contestant over the weekend.
