Kibaki heads to Australia for CHOGM meeting

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 26 – President Mwai Kibaki left the country on Tuesday night for Perth, Australia to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The plane carrying the President and his entourage left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly before midnight.

Before his departure President Kibaki was briefed by top security officials on the ongoing internal and external operations geared towards decisively dealing with criminal elements who are inclined in disrupting the country’s peace and security.

The President commended Kenya’s security forces for their good work and encouraged them to remain steadfast as they continue to render their invaluable service to the nation and its people.

Once again the Head of State appealed to Kenyans to remain vigilant asserting that while the security forces undertook their duties citizens should also play their part by rendering their support and cooperation as the country deals with the current security obligations.

The President reiterated his commitment and that of the government in securing the country’s territorial integrity and to contribute towards regional peace and stability.

During his visit in Australia, President Kibaki will hold talks with other leaders whom he will brief on emerging security issues in the horn of Africa region.

The biennial Summit provides heads of government with the opportunity to discuss Commonwealth and global issues, and to jointly decide upon policies and initiatives.
