LONDON, Sep 14 – Prime Minister David Cameron vowed on Wednesday to do everything possible to help find a British woman abducted in Kenya, revealing that the government’s emergency committee had met to discuss her plight.
“We are doing everything we possibly can on this desperately tragic case,” he told the House of Commons, three days after social worker Judith Tebbutt was abducted and her husband David shot dead at a luxury resort close to the Lamu archipelago.
“I chaired a meeting of Cobra (emergency committee) about this issue yesterday to make sure we are coordinating everything the government does,” he said, adding that Foreign Secretary William Hague had also met with the Tebbutt family on Wednesday.
Asked by a lawmaker what Britain was doing for Tebbutt, who is in her mid-fifties, Cameron said he could not give details but promised that action was being taken.
“I think on some of these cases it’s not right to air all of these issues in public but I can reassure him, the family and all that know the Tebbutt family that we will do everything possible to help,” the prime minister said.
An air, land and sea search for Tebbutt has so far yielded no trace, raising fears she has been taken to neighbouring Somalia.
