4 bodies retrieved from collapsed Vihiga building

NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 18 – Four bodies have been retrieved under the debris of the Vihiga collapsed building when the rescue operation resumed on Sunday morning.

According to officials of the Kenya Red Cross Society one person was rescued with minor injuries after the three-storey building under construction crumbled down.

Kenya Red Cross officials say two people are still unaccounted for and efforts to scale the debris is ongoing despite heavy down pour that has been pounding the area.

Vihiga District OCPD Lawrence Galama says that six other people who were injured have been admitted to various hospitals in the district.

More people who were working at the site when the building collapsed in Luanda -Vihiga County on Saturday afternoon are believed to be trapped in the rubble and rescue efforts are ongoing.

Galama also said an investigation into the cause of the collapse of the building that was still under construction has been launched.

This is the latest in a series of collapsed buildings across the country amid accusations of poor workmanship among the housing industry players.
