NAIROBI, Kenya Jul 4 – A 38-year-old Moyale businessman Jafar Isaak on Monday launched his bid for the 2012 Presidency and declared that he would vie for the country’s top seat as an independent candidate.
The little-known Jafar told a media conference in Nairobi that his vision was to unify the country from the tribal based politics in order to achieve economic prosperity.
"Rarely does anyone ask to be allowed to serve and that is where my humility comes from. I am humbled because the new Constitution which we all overwhelming voted for gives you all the powers to dictate, decide and be the drivers of how this beautiful country shall be governed,” he said.
Mr Isaak cited the lack of accountability and transparency as the main contributors to official corruption and the plundering of national resources meant for development. He said that past governments have failed Kenyans by offering poor leadership citing the current famine which he attributes to poor planning.
"It is this insidious development and not the colonial legacy that has bought Kenya to the brink of ruin and its people to the desperate situation in which so many millions find themselves today," he said.
Mr Isaak has urged the youth to play an active role in the management of the county’s affairs, and move away from the era of \’recycled leaders who promise nothing but hope daily yet have led this country for decades.
"I want to lead a revolution that will lead to a revolution that will lead to an evolution and bring Kenyans together!" he declared.
"Fellow Kenyans, they have always said the youth are leaders of tomorrow. Fellow Kenyans, tomorrow has come and as the youth of this country, we must seize this great opportunity for the real change," he said.
Mr Isaak now joins a growing list of presidential hopefuls who include Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto and Mutava Musyimi.
Other candidates in the race include Local Government Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Eugene Wamalwa, Bifwoli Wakoli and Education PS Prof James Ole Kiyapi.
