Gunmen open fire at MP Mwau’s vehicle

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 24 – Gunmen opened fire at a vehicle belonging to Kilome Member of Parliament John Harun Mwau in Nairobi on Thursday night, barely a fortnight after he claimed that his life was in danger.

Mr Mwau was not in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to police.

Nairobi Provincial Police chief Antony Kibuchi told Capital News that the MP\’s driver and bodyguard were on board at the time but none of them was injured.

Mr Kibuchi said investigations were underway to establish circumstances under which the attack occurred.

The Range Rover vehicle was towed to the Central Police station where detectives were analyzing it.

Mr Mwau is understood to have visited the police station early on Friday morning.

The lawmaker told Parliament two weeks ago that his life was in danger and asked Internal Security Minister Professor George Saitoti to accord him security, weeks after US President Barrack Obama named him as a drug kingpin.
