AP killed by irate mob in Baringo

BARINGO, Kenya, Jun 25 – An administration police officer was on Friday evening lynched by irate mot at Tuiyobei area within Muchungoi division of Baringo north district.

According to area police chief Ndung\’u Waikonya, the AP constable Ruben Chipkiomei Chelagat attached to the Kipsalam DO\’s office had taken a day off and was accosted by the mob that beat him to death.

The police chief said that the mob accused the officer of involvement in the killing of a 53 year old woman identified as Peninah Chebet on Monday this week at Kadei area.

He said the officer was unaware of the incident and attempts to escape from the wrath of the mob were fruitless.

"The information we have received is that the officer is suspected to have been connected with the murder of the woman of June 20 at Kadei village and so they searched for him until they caught up with him as he went home," said the OCPD.

"We have launched investigations into the matter and we appeal to members of the public to provide us with crucial information that will help us get to the root cause of the matter", he told Capital News.

He appealed to residents in the area not to take the law into their own hands and instead report such matters to the relevant authorities for immediate and thorough action.

In Nyahururu, Administration Police officers on Friday impounded over 10,000 litres of illicit brew and confiscated brewing equipment at an illegal brewing den at Vietnam village, Kwa Wanjiku area within the district.

The suspected brewers however managed to escape the police dragnet leaving behind the brews.

The AP Commandant added that all brewers of traditional liquor must adhere to the laid down procedures of the National Agency for the Control of Drug Abuse NACADA, to ensure that public safety is taken care of.

Mr Masaba said his officers would not relent until the brews are eradicated completely. Brews at the homes are sieved with bed sheets after fermentation.
