Ezekiel Mutua named Information Secretary

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 12 – Ezekiel Mutua, who has been the Director of Information and Public Communication, has been promoted to a newly created position of Information Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Announcing the appointment, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Bitange Ndemo said the post which is in the category of Job Group "T" was created vide the Public Service Commission of Kenya letter ref: 247/11 of March 9.

It followed the ministry of State for Public Service recommendation that the post was crucial for the smooth coordination and effective management of information arm of the ministry.

The Secretary will be in charge of three main technical departments namely; Information Services, Public Communication Services and Film Department.

The post Information Secretary, the first ever to be created in the Ministry of Information and Communications has been established following workload analysis of the Department of Information and Public Communication carried out by the Ministry of State for Public Service last year.

The Information Secretary will be responsible to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications for:  deployment of the Public Communication officers in all the ministries, departments and state agencies.

Through a network of field officers, the Information Secretary will facilitate constant awareness and preparedness of the office of the Government Spokesman by sharing information that is disseminated in the print and electronic media locally and abroad.

He will also coordinated communication of government policies and development agenda and monitoring and analyzing media content in order to enhance national security, peace and cohesion.

Dr Ndemo commended Mr Mutua for the appointment saying his strong and tested leadership qualities and management skills had been the leading factors to the success of the department of Information.

 "Mr Mutua has displayed commitment, consistency, vigour and enthusiasm in his work" Dr Ndemo said adding that he had helped to revamp and restructure the department and his appointment was well deserved.

Mr Mutua holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Linguistics from Kenyatta University.

He has served as the Director of Information and Public Communication for three and half years and at the time of his new appointment he was the senior most officer at the department.
